Its not that unusual when you insert your new ink or Toner and the Printer will give you a message saying that the Ink or Toner is not recognized. “DRAMA” Murphy’s Law will state that this will happen at the precise moment when you just really don’t need it….
This can happen with most of the Printers on the market but don’t throw the printer against the wall ‘just yet’ there are solutions at hand.
Mostly the consumer is very fast to blame the Ink or toner itself as it was working before I bought “your dam cartridge”! But let’s see what a solution might look like.
A Hewlett Packard Printer?
One of the big gun’s indeed on the Market can always have its issues, Including sending firmware updates to there printers rendering Compatible cartridges useless. They have been taken to court over this and lost. See here. https://www.hpprinterfirmwarelawsuit.com
“Very Naughty indeed”
However, dirt on the Chip or in fact an older version off the chip can be a cause – it’s worth cleaning the chip contacts with a dry clean cloth. Most Hewlett Packard Ink’s are time stamped also which means if they are out of date you may have issues.
A Brother Printer?
The biggest player in my opinion in the New Zealand marketplace by far, Brother sell the actual Printers at an exceptionally low price with a relatively long warranty. However, the cost of Genuine Ink’s and toners are quite extreme in some cases. Of course, they also will tell you that you must use Genuine ink’s or Toner’s to Validate the warranty.
One thing to remember when installing a Brother ink or toner is that the Printer always should be switched on as this allows the Printer to recognize the installation.
If there’s no “LOVE” and the Printer is simply not wanting to play a Cold Boot might be the next thing to try.
To Cold Boot…Unplug from the wall socket for 10 minutes, this means that when you switch it on again the printer will effectively do a full re-start and detect the new Ink or cartridge.
Again, if there are chip’s involved try cleaning with a soft clean cloth. Or the end of your shirt works well too.
If you have a problem with the Genuine Ink or Toner and can’t get any joy Brother will help you.
An Epson Printer?
This is problem city, the software on Epson printers seems to cause many more issues that the competition.
Again, a Cold Boot or cleaning the Chips are common fixes.
A Canon Printer?
Everyone loves Canon “Right”?
I’m saving this for another article but stick to the previous advice and you should be ok, however, Canon has a Printhead that can in fact become blocked or clogged, cleaning this can be a game changer for you.
In summary always work with a long standing, reputable local Supplier or Inks and Toners that also offer the full range of Genuine and compatibles
